The hubby and I usually end up eating in the same restaurants every time we go into Liverpool so for our recent cinema trip, we decided to do some googling and see if there was anywhere different we could venture. Vegan eating is on the up and gluten-free eating is becoming more popular too but it is usually different to find a restaurant which cooks food which ticks both boxes! Most of the restaurants we eat at are Italian and this one was no exception but it’s still nice to have somewhere different to go!
Ask Italian have quite a good vegan menu and a gluten free one too! After a quick look at both I found a number of options including a couple of pasta options, a vegan prima pizza with different toppings to choose from and the pizza I chose which was called the Super Green Vegan.
This pizza is unlike the offerings from the other Italian restaurants I go to which is why I chose it! Ask Italian describe it as “a pea purée base topped with tender baby kale, asparagus, peas, red pepper pearls, spinach, balsamic red onions, and vegan mozzarella alternative”. It was absolutely delicious and felt a lot lighter and healthier than your usual vegan pizza. I think that the base is probably the same gluten-free base which pizza express use as it tasted familiar! I washed it all down with a delicious still lemonade and off we went to see Toy Story!
I was particularly impressed with the knowledge of the serving staff who were quick to warn me that the garlic bread my husband had ordered wasn’t gluten-free. I was tempted by their chocolate and blood orange tart for dessert but I was so full after my pizza that I decided that would be a treat for next time.
I’m definitely heading back to Ask Italian to try their other offerings! It was a great place for a gluten-free vegan and hopefully they’ll keep it up with the slightly different options that they had. Check out their vegan menu here.
